Blackjack Rule Variations

While all blackjack games are similar in how they are played, different variations have different rules. Below are some of the more common types you'll find online and their differences.

European Blackjack Rules:

  • Two decks used
  • Dealer stands on soft seventeen
  • Double down on 9 to 11 only
  • No doubling after splitting
  • Can only split once
  • Gambler can draw to split aces
  • Surrender Not Available
  • Full no peek (Gambler loses total amount bet against dealer blackjack)
  • Insurance settle at the end of hand
  • One bet position

Multi-Hand Blackjack Rules:

  • Five decks used
  • Dealer stands on soft seventeen
  • Double down on 9 to 11 only
  • No doubling after splitting
  • Can only split once
  • Gambler can draw to split aces

Vegas Downtown Blackjack Rules:

  • Two decks used
  • Dealer must hit on soft seventeen
  • Double on any first two cards
  • Double after split allowed
  • Re split to three hands
  • Dealer peeks for blackjack
  • One bet position

Atlantic City Blackjack Rules:

  • Eight decks used
  • Dealer stands on soft seventeen
  • Double on any first two cards
  • Double after split allowed
  • Re split to three hands
  • Dealer peeks for blackjack
  • Late surrender allowed
  • One bet position
