Craps Basics

In Craps the first roll of the dice is called the come out roll. But before the first roll is made everyone standing around the craps table has the option to make a pass line bet or a don’t pass bet.

Pass Line Bet

This is where you bet that the initial roll will be a 7 or an 11 or that it won’t be a 2, 3, or 12. If the roll doesn’t hit one of those 5 numbers then then roll will be used to establish a point. Now that we have the point the shooter will then continue to roll until he hits a 7 or the point. Should the shooter hit a 7 before hitting the point then you lose. Should they hit the point before a 7 then you win. These additional rolls are called point rolls and while these rolls are happening you can increase your bet by placing odds bets.

Don’t Pass Bet

This is where you bet that the initial roll will be a 2 or a 3 or that it won’t be a 7 or a 11. If this roll is a 12 then it’s a draw. Just like the pass line bet if the roll doesn’t hit one of those 5 numbers then then roll will be used to establish a point. The shooter will continue to roll until they hit a 7 or the point. If they hit the 7 you win but if they hit the point then you lose. Here again players can increase bets by placing odds bets.

Come or Don't Come Bets

While the point rolls are happening players can make even more bets. These bets are called come or don’t come bets. These are just like the pass line and don’t pass bets only are an additional game within a game. Once you have placed a come bet then the next roll will be the come out roll for that additional bet. If that bet is not instantly won or lost then a come point will be established. The game will continue with more point rolls, as with the pass bets players can make odds bets during the rolls.

Odds Bets

An Odds Bet is when you add money to your original bet if the original bet is not won or lost during the opening come out roll. There is no house edge with odds bets as the pay out at true odds.
