Roulette Glossary/Terms

Below are some of the more commonly used terms you might hear around the roulette table and what they mean.

Action Player
A gamblers who will bet big over an extended period of time.

American Wheel
A Roulette wheel with a 0 and 00 number.

The rim of the roulette wheel.

The amount of money a gambler has to play with.

Biased Wheel
A roulette wheel with an imperfection that changes the probability of certain numbers hitting.

Black Bet
Betting that the next spin will land on a black number.

Capping a Bet
Illegally sneaking more chips to an existing winning bet.

Check Rack
A tray that hold a players roulette chips.

Choppy Game
a game without streaks or patterns.

Column Bet
A bet on one of the three columns of 12 numbers.

Combination Bet
Betting one or more chips on two or more numbers.

Corner Bet
Betting that four numbers in a given corner of the layout.

A french term for the person who spins the roulette wheel.

Dozen Bet
Betting on one of the groups of 12 numbers on the table.

European Wheel
Roulette wheel with only a single zero.

Even Bet
Betting that one of the even numbers will hit next.

Gaffed Wheel
A roulette wheel which has been altered by someone.

High Bet
Betting that one of the high numbers (19-36) will hit.

Inside Bet
Betting somewhere in the numbered section of the roulette table.

Line Bet
Betting that one of six numbers will hit the next spin.

Low Bet
Betting that one of the low numbers (1-18) will hit the next spin.

Martingale Betting System
A double up system where a player doubles their bet after each lose.

Money Plays
Alerting the dealer that you are betting cash and not chips.

Odd Bet
Betting that an odd number will hit next spin.

Outside Bets
A 2-1 or 1-1 bets found on the outside of the table.

Red Bet
Betting that the next number will be red.

Split Bet
Betting that one of two numbers will hit on the next spin.

Straight Up Bet
Betting on one number.
