Legal Sports Betting Has Gone Live in Missouri
It’s official – as of December 1st, 2025, legal sports betting is live in Missouri. Gamblers already have access to eight of the best sportsbook apps, including BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings. Several land-based casinos in the Show-Me State now also accept sports bets, with more expected to follow suit.
Timeline and Key Events
In November 2024, Missouri voters narrowly approved Amendment 2, effectively legalizing sports betting in the state. This paved the way for the market rollout on December 1st, 2025, after nearly 13 months of regulatory processes. The Missouri Gaming Commission has already issued temporary licenses to 8 popular online sportsbooks and several retail operators. Permanent ones are pending full vetting.
In total, there could be up to 33 licensed sportsbooks in the state, comprising 14 mobile and 19 retail ones. With only eight sports betting apps currently available, we could see up to six more operators added in the future. Brick-and-mortar casinos such as Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City and Argosy Casino & Hotel have also gone live with in-person betting.
Missouri was the 39th US state to legalize sports betting and the only one to officially launch a licensed market this year. Just recently, the Wisconsin Assembly delayed voting on online sportsbooks until 2026. The reason for this is unclear, but many believe Senate Bill 492 will be approved early next year despite the delay.
Licensed Mobile Sportsbooks in Missouri
The new law allows for the Missouri Gaming Commission to issue up to 14 mobile licenses (6 tethered to casinos, 6 to pro sports teams, 2 untethered). Currently, the following eight sportsbook apps operate in the state:
- BetMGM (partnered with Century Casino & Hotel Cape Girardeau)
- DraftKings (untethered license)
- FanDuel (partnered with the St. Louis City Soccer Club)
- Caesars Sportsbook (partnered with Harrah’s Kansas City and Horseshoe St. Louis)
- Circa Sports (untethered license)
- bet365 (partnered with the St. Louis Cardinals)
- theScore Bet (previously ESPN Bet, partnered with Penn Entertainment casinos)
- Fanatics Sportsbook (partnered with Boyd Gaming)
With numerous major brands available to Missouri bettors, the competition is already quite significant. Operators are trying to outdo each other by offering attractive bonuses and incentives to their users. This creates a favorable environment for customers who can take advantage of boosted odds, generous welcome packages, and ongoing promos.
The Future Ahead
The future of Missouri’s legal sports betting market is bright. Preliminary estimates, although unofficial, predict a highly successful first month and an upward trend thereafter. The Show-Me State will apply a 10% tax rate on adjusted gross gaming revenue (GGR), with proceeds funding education after covering regulatory costs and problem gambling programs.
Responsible gambling is a key priority for the state. Missouri’s 24/7 BetsOff hotline is now live and ready to assist anyone struggling to manage their gambling habits. That said, there are plenty of other responsible gambling organizations available for players from the state, including Gam Talk, Gam-Anon, and Gamblers Anonymous.
