Resorts World Hudson Will Encourage Online Sports Betting

New Resorts World Establishment May Appear in New York CityResorts World Hudson Valley is replacing a former Bon-Ton department store in New York. The establishment will have about 1,200 video lottery terminals (VLTs), electronic table games, and a sports bar. The sports bar will encourage online sports betting in NY via the Resorts World Bet app.

VLTs resemble slot machines in appearance, operation, and sound. However, they are different in terms of how they decide results. A VLT spin result is determined considered a central lottery system that connects all of the casino’s terminals, unlike a slot machine, which uses a random number generator.

Empire Resorts, which is the parent company of Resorts World Catskills, received state authorization last year to relocate the VLT license that it had formerly used to run gaming machines at the Monticello Raceway. The racino was acquired by Empire Resorts in 1996. Empire ran it as a VLT casino racetrack until ending operations in early 2018. The gaming company started Resorts World Catskills in February of that year.

Meghan Taylor Says She Hopes the New Casino Will Bring About New Investments

Resorts World Hudson Valley, according to Empire, will be geared toward regional players and locals. It will be different from Resorts World Catskills, which is primarily a resort for overnight stays. Meghan Taylor, vice president of government affairs at Resorts World, says that it will be easy and quick for them to put off the infrastructure and roadways they have right outside their doors, unlike in the Resorts World Catskills.

She also mentioned that there is no accommodation or many specialty dishes for players. The facility is focused on gaming instead. She also hopes that the VLT casino will bring about new investments in the mall that is largely vacant.

“We hope we’re going to be a catalyst to drive redevelopment here at the mall,” Meghan Taylor said.

The Construction of the Casino Will Benefit Locals

The Newburgh Mall has experienced better times, just like numerous other malls in the US. Since 2009, above a quarter of the floor space in the shopping centre has been vacant. After 43 years in business, the mall’s old-time flagship anchor, Sears, plans to close. Two of the three anchor spaces in the Newburgh Mall will be vacant after Sears leaves. The third anchor space will be occupied by Resorts World.

Empire Resorts believes it would not be a wise business decision to operate a VLT facility in the same location as its Catskills investment. So, it requested to move it. Early in 2021, the casino operator received approval from the New York Gaming Commission to move the location of its VLT license to Orange County.

Two hundred construction workers will be employed in the building of Resorts World Hudson Valley. The casino is anticipated to hire more than 250 people once it opens. It is presently accepting applications from those who are interested in different jobs. Local gaming revenue of $3 million per year is anticipated for Newburgh. That amounts to 10% of the town’s fiscal year government budget for 2022.
