World Poker Tour and Wynn Las Vegas Will Join Forces to Sponsor a Landmark Event

The news from Las Vegas got the whole poker world buzzing as the World Poker Tour and Wynn Las Vegas announced that they will be joining forces to sponsor a landmark event. The event dubbed WPT World Championship is a multi-tournament event that will run for 20 days from December 1, 2022. This event will feature a $15 million-worth prize pool, making it the largest live poker tournament ever.

At the festival there are over a dozen tournaments which include three primary events: the Wynn Mystery Bounty, the Prime Championship, and the World Championship. However, the world championship is the marquee event of the festival with a $10,400 buy-in that will build up with the final table, which will be televised. There are also a handful of other tournaments in the 20 days of the festival that will also be broadcast live.

Poker is Set to Return to its Popular Days

The CEO of World Poker Tour, Adam Pliska, said: “This is one of the most ambitious initiatives the World Poker Tour® has undertaken in our 20-year history, we expect this to be a highly anticipated festival…” He also added that it is a huge delight for the company to partner with Wynn Las Vegas to bring the idea to life.

Wynn Las Vegas and WPT kept these huge developments tightly within themselves until they published a joint press release on the morning of June 6. It is believed that this year-long partnership between Wynn Las Vegas and WPT, who happen to be the two biggest players in the poker industry, could be a steppingstone for the sport to return to the level of popularity it had back in the early 2000s.

The Executive Tour Director at WPT who is doubling as the Head of Poker and Gaming at The Sporting News, Matt Savage, expressed his excitement about having the Wynn Las Vegas as a partner in executing this huge concept in the poker industry. He said he is thrilled to be working with the amazing staff and dealers headed by Ryan Beauregard, the poker room director.

The Qualifying Process of the Festival

There are hundreds of live and online satellite qualifiers that will be at the World Poker Tour World Championship. It was announced that the WPT’s online satellites will held on ClubWPT, the WPT’s poker subscription game service, with numerous qualifying opportunities revealed the following week after the joint press release.

Ryan Beauregard, now speaking about the festival and the partnership, expressed his excitement about the WPT partnership. He said the festival will be “one-of-a-kind”, and it will also be a “must-attend” event for new players and the current ones.
